Noonmark and the Great Range from Round Mtn. panorama

I had often looked at the gully just beside the Chapel Pond slide as a potential route to climb to the summit of Round Mountain. Back in 1997 we'd had some really nice snowfalls, and I thought the route would be well covered, so I asked my children Carl and Greta if they'd like to go for an adventurous snowshoe hike.

This route turned out to be one of the steepest routes I've done in the woods of the Adirondacks. We were rewarded at the top with beautiful clear views of all the peaks in the area. This panorama looks over to Noonmark on the left hand side of the image, with Gothics, Armstrong, and the Wolf Jaws to the right of Noonmark.

The hike up was rugged and slow, but the return trip was quite exciting and fun as we ran, jumped, and slid our way back down the route we had just climbed.
