In early 2000, I was asked to do some photography of Gore Mtn. that gave a feeling of the special qualities of the view from some of the mountain's trails. I had already done some skiing over the mountain to get a feel of the views that I thought would bring through the qualities I was looking for. The weather was looking promising for the weather conditions I wanted, so I made my arrangements with the mountain and waited to see the weather maps early next morning.
The maps at 4 AM showed mid-level clouds extending across most of the Adirondack region. Considering their movement, I figured they should pretty well cover the sky except for where the sun was coming up. I was on top of the mountain and setting up my equipment when the clouds started lighting up just before actual sunrise. While the light on the clouds was quite beautiful, I thought this view with the shades of pink on the trees and mountain ridges really helped set the off view of the Adirondack High Peaks and the southeastern Adirondacks. |
