Winter panorama of the Adirondack High Peaks from Algonquin

Late winter of 2001 saw record amounts of snow fall in the Adirondack Park of upstate New York. About 7 feet of snow fell in Lake Placid in several storms in just the month of March! The end of the month saw snow covering the High Peaks like few have ever seen before.

I took off with my son and a friend to ski Algonquin just after the last major snowfall of the month. It was a beautiful fairly calm day with just a few clouds in the sky that were predicted to disappear by late in the day. The quantity of snow was just amazing! Trails became rather difficult to navigate in a number of places because the amount of snow on the ground had us skiing through the treetops.

Once on top, we took some time to enjoy the view, then Carl and Colin headed off for Iroquois while I set up to photograph the view of the High Peaks from the top of Algonquin. This panoramic view takes in Whiteface and Wright Peak on the left, the major peaks and Mt. Marcy and Mt. Colden in the center, and then pans around to Lake Colden and the Flowed Lands on the right.
