Acadia National Park panorama of Otter Cliffs and Schooner Head

The cobblestone beach area near Otter Cliffs is a favorite spot that I try to visit at least once whenever I visit Acadia National Park. Early morning is a special time when the rocks are still wet with ocean water from the tide going out. Both the moisture and soft light enhance the soft pastel colors of the granite cobbles. While most of the rocks contain the pink granite of the surrounding cliffs, after searching around one morning I found a huge cobble that was jade green in color.

On the morning I took this panorama in September, 2001, there was a soft mist out on the water that slightly diffused the light when the sun rose. As the sunlight brightened on Otter Cliffs, the sheer pink granite walls glowed with a beautiful reddish color. I set up on a boulder where the surf came in around my feet to help give the feel of the waves crashing all around.
